Podcasts That Make You Smarter

May 3, 2016 by Karsten 6 Comments

I love podcasts to switch off during a rush hour commute in Bangkok. Often trains are packed and you can't even pull out your phone to look at funny cat pictures. Listening to podcasts makes me feel a bit more productive when I walk home from the subway station in the sweltering heat (or sit in a traffic jam in the back of an air conditioned taxi). This way, aside from burning an extra calorie or two, I also learn why an adopted, black, gay teenager is a huge Trump supporter. What to Listen: … [Read more...]

Why Doing Business in Thailand Isn’t an Awful Idea.

April 26, 2016 by Karsten Leave a Comment

When my former business partner and I picked out Thailand, I was 22 years old. Thailand was on our radar because he had done an internship here. That was it. From the get-go, the main reason to look into Thailand was lower costs and the flexibility of a web-based business. Things seemed a lot cheaper and for our customers, it didn't matter if we were located in Germany or Thailand. What Do You Want?

April 19, 2016 by Karsten Leave a Comment

Simple question: What do you want? I have a five year old niece who could answer it. Today it might be a puppy, tomorrow a pony, but while her answer might change, she definitely would have an answer. Most people feel similar. Thoughts of massive houses, fast cars, exotic vacations and fat wallets come to mind very quickly. But the question I'd like to ask is not just about what you feel like having, it's about what you truly want. Something that you want so much, that you are willing to … [Read more...]

The Truth Behind Fan Death

April 12, 2016 by Karsten Leave a Comment

Fan death is a misconception, common in Korean culture, that running an electric fan in a closed room can lead to death. - Wikipedia To say the plan was elaborate was a colossal understatement. With practically no access to technology, limited financial means and non-existent ground support, it all had to go perfectly. How do you kill someone and make it look...well, not like an accident. Because if there's one thing that's more suspicious than a murder, it's a murder that was made to look … [Read more...]

Game Over: An Interview on Video Gaming Rehab

April 5, 2016 by Karsten Leave a Comment

A few weeks back, I wrote a post about my own experience with a video gaming addiction. I received a lot of feedback from people sharing their own stories as well as asking for advice. Since I'm no therapist, I've decided to find some people who are and asked them for their recommendations. One of them, Dr. Brett Merrill, I interviewed a few weeks ago already. This time, I'd like to introduce you to Dr. Hilarie Cash, who runs a video game addiction treatment center called reSTART. She agreed … [Read more...]
